How much longer can they wait on hiring a coach. The new coach must be able to get a staff and get the players lifting. I know alot of players are not lifting. We need some direction we can't keep waiting on this and that.

Do you mean theres no staff and no weightlifting? Im sure they let yall lift, right? Are the players not working hard? Coach Turner once said "You can tell what kinda person and player you can be, if your working hard when no ones watching" Think about that.

Where is the senior/junior leadership. You push yourself. That is how you get to be where you need to be. Don't wait for some one to push you. Push yourselves.
You win games when you want them more, not a coach, or for a coach, but you yourselves, weightlifting is no different.
You have to want to be the best, so you push yourself, and those who want to be some thing, or a part of some thing.
Hopefully not much longer things will get better.
There is no one to blame here but two, one the school administration and two the SB.
Sorry but the truth.
I've spent 20 years helping in some form way or fashion. Im frustrated myself.
So to those looking in. Do what is right by these kids and the program Coach Turner and others built.
Old saying lead and they shall follow. Got to have a leader some times.
I'm just wondering if there is some underlying cause that we don't all know about. Does anybody know officially who the applicants are or were? I'v read lots of heresay on this board and wishful thinking, but it comes down to who wants the job? It would be a great job for the right person, provided a staff of assistants could be assembled.
I don't know, but maybe the administration is working hard to fill the position, but the right person hasn't come forward to accept the position. It is a tradition-laden program in which the right coach could continue the tradition.....but....it won't be easy following Tom, especially without an adequate staff. Not many quality coaches are going to walk into a no-win situation that could put them out of coaching.
Appalachia does have two school board members so I would think for sure they are aware of the urgency of the situation.
Maybe something will be decided soon at the next SB meeting.
How about the basketball job? I do know there is a current assistant who wants the job, I'm just wondering why he or someone else hasn't been named.

I don't believe that's the case. I would be shocked if they had a lot of applicants to choose from for this job. Coaches have to take into consideration that it's an extremely small school that could be closed within a few years and Appalachia is not exactly a desirable place to live these days.
The test is simple, if "your" team wins a national championship, do you get a championship ring? If the answer is yes, then you can say "we." If not, you can't.
I agree that the players should push themselves in off season workouts even without a coach (and some probably are) however it is never a good idea to turn kids loose in a weight room with no adult supervision. Not only is it a potently dangers situation but MOST kids have no clue how to lift (Sets, Reps, Weight and most importantly Form) it becomes very possable you will have some kids bulk up but lose flexibility/speed.....The older kids that have been in the system could step in and help out the younger kids but there is always the risk of horseplay getting the best of the situation or worse you could have a situation like RC had a few years ago (I am not saying to that extreme but kids will do some screwed up things to each other when no one is watching)
I dont know how safe it is Counts. I remember a particular fieldhouse "supervisor" in Clintwood who absolutely put kids through hell. It was all I could do many days just to crawl out of there. Coach Counts was the maniac's name....
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

I hear from the rumor mill that there is some good interest in the head position at Appy. Good surprises ahead if everything works out. Stay tuned!
